This item seems to have been the fix. Fridge/freezer is working properly a d has yet to refreeze over. Been on about 2 weeks now. Easy to install.

The quality of this part is the same as GE's original part. It is awful! It is about 1/2" too narrow, so it continually slips and puts a lit of strain on one, tiny plastic (un-reinforced) edge. Will probably break soon, just like the original. I recommend it as a replacement because...what else are you going to do? The original product has some major design flaws.

exact replacement thermostat that has all the same qualities as the original

After having numerous defrosters crispy critter with no apparent reason, I felt something "controlling" might be causing it. The last one installed must have continued to stay on and melted the housing. Perhaps the unit wasn't cycling off promptly? Rather than spend $200 or more for a repairman, I gave a new thermostat a try. So far all is well. If that turns out not to be the case, then back to the drawing board. I'm hoping that maybe this small investment on a genuine part was well worth a try...especially after watching several detailed videos on how to switch out the part on YouTube.
